Improve the renovation rate - GKFP e.V. and EPPA ivzw present themselves at FENSTERBAU FRONTALE

FENSTERBAU FRONTALE will take place in Nuremberg from March 19 to 22, 2024. As in previous years, the European trade association of PVC-U window system manufacturers, EPPA ivzw, will be represented at the trade fair together with RAL Gütegemeinschaft Kunststoff-Fensterprofilsysteme e.V. (GKFP), this time in hall 4A - stand 129. In addition, both associations will be organizing a lecture program on various exciting topics in the official FORUM of FENSTERBAU FRONTALE on 21 March from 10:30 to 14:00. The motto of the EPPA and GKFP trade fair appearance is "renovation - use what we have and make it better".

How can we improve the renovation rate?

As part of the FORUM at FENSTERBAU FRONTALE, GKFP and EPPA have put together a program consisting of six presentations by various experts from associations and institutes. “Renovation" is the focus of the half-day event.

The thematic block will open with a report on the Renovate Europe campaign, an initiative of EuroACE - Energy Efficient Buildings. The aim of this political campaign is to improve the low renovation rate in Europe (<1%) to the target of 3% set by the EU Commission by implementing focused actions. The campaign also aims to support the European Union and the member states in the transformation of the building stock, from planning through to implementation.

In her presentation “About the Renovate Europe Campaign to improve the renovation rate of existing buildings in Europe”, Perrine Ethuin (BASF), deputy chair of the Renovate Europe campaign, will present the initiative's packages of measures using the example of the renovation of school buildings.

Cosima Wörle, responsible for Evaluation and Demonstration (Department of Energy Efficiency and Indoor Climate) at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP), will then present a comprehensive scientific overview of the relationship between the use of renewable energies for heating and the energy-efficient building envelope with regard to EU climate targets. The use of renewable energies in existing buildings as well as the energy-efficient renovation of the building envelope are both the key to decarbonisation. The relevance and chances offered by window replacement are the subject of this presentation.

Gerald Feigenbutz, Managing Director of EPPA ivzw, Brussels, will be on stage to present the latest news from EPPA Brussels and report on the association's current political activities. In particular, he will address industry-relevant topics such as: Renovation rate, CPR, EPR and news on the recycling of old windows.

Dirk R. Schmidt will then introduce himself as the new Managing Director of the RAL Gütegemeinschaft Kunststoff-Fensterprofilsysteme e.V. (GKFP) and present current topics from the association, digital projects and future projects under the lead title "The Gütegemeinschaft as a reliable partner in changing times - an outlook".

Bernhard Elias, Quality Assurance Manager at the GKFP, will answer the question "Can I ruin PVC windows by cleaning? - How to do it right." He will present project findings on the compatibility of PVC windows with cleaning agents and explain how to proceed correctly when cleaning windows. Cleaning agent manufacturers offer a wide variety of products that are more or less suitable for plastics. This mixed situation gave rise to the question of whether a "wrong" cleaning agent in conjunction with the influence of weathering can cause damage to white PVC windows. A long-term project by the Gütegemeinschaft in co-operation with the Gütegemeinschaft Reinigung von Fassaden e.V. provided the first answers.

The programme will be rounded off by a presentation of the activities of Prowindo, the Alliance for PVC-U Windows, by Alexander Franke, Chairman of the Board of EPPA ivzw, in the lecture "PROWINDO - Initiative for energy efficiency, recyclability and climate protection for PVC-U windows in Germany". Industry associations and institutes involved in PROWINDO speak about their contribution to positioning PVC windows as a sustainable building product. This will be followed by a dialogue with the audience.

We cordially invite all interested parties to visit us at our stand at FENSTERBAU FRONTALE and look forward to active participation in our exciting lecture program. Reminder: FRONTALE FORUM, March 21, 2024, from 10:30 to 14:00.
