Optimum Interaction of Adhesive and Primer in Window Profile Wrapping

Modern windows are expected to have a life span of several decades. During that time, they are continually exposed to high mechanical stress and often also to extreme weathering. Resistance to those conditions is facilitated by a combination of robust materials, certified high-performance adhesives and primers.
Jowat’s portfolio of tried and trusted adhesives for the wrapping of window profiles is continuously being developed further. The adhesives provide optimum characteristics such as high initial strength and a wide range of adhesion for a flawless bond between the foil and PVC or aluminum profiles. Those hot melt adhesives have been certified according to RAL GZ 716 in combination with conventional primers as well as with VOC-reduced, NEP-free primers which are not subject to hazard labeling.

Jowatherm Reaktant® MR 604.90 is a novel, hazard-free PUR hot melt adhesive in the market for window profile wrapping. The product is certified in accordance with RAL-GZ 716 and is characterized especially by its outstanding hydrolysis stability. Jowatherm Reaktant® MR 604.90 can be processed in combination with the NEP-free, VOC-reduced primer Jowat® 406.84, the primer Jowat® 406.78 (MEK-based) or any other primer of the Jowat product portfolio.
 
The combination of hazard-free primers and PUR hot melt adhesives reduces emissions in the manufacturing environment to protect the employees. The regulatory training required for the handling of diisocyanate-containing products coming into force in August 2023 can be avoided with monomer-reduced PUR hot melt adhesives.

Monomer-reduced PUR hot melt adhesives are part of Jowat’s “Green Adhesives” series. The objective to increase the sustainability of bonding is an integral part of the Jowat principles. Resource conservation is of crucial importance in that regard and to this end we focus on the adhesive itself as well as on the bonding process.
