Why quality assurance?

The purpose of quality assurance and the RAL quality mark is to confirm to the user (and in the case of the quality mark, the planner, developer or architect as well) that the products satisfy the standards of the test and quality requirements. These requirements must always be more stringent than those of the pertinent standard.

How does it work?

The idea of voluntary quality assurance according to “RAL test and quality requirements” has been around since 1925. Companies of a particular trade formulate test and quality requirements according to the rules of the “RAL Deutsches Institut für Gütesicherung und Kennzeichnung e.V.” and these are then inspected and reviewed by “specialist and target groups” across Germany. The test and quality requirements recognised in this way can be applied by companies on a voluntary basis. If all the criteria are met, the association awards the RAL quality mark for the product or service. The quality assurance that is confirmed by the quality mark comprises an initial type test, regular in-house manufacturing control by the manufacturer and external third-party monitoring performed by a neutral body. If the quality requirements are repeatedly not met, the quality mark is withdrawn.

Further information on the tasks of quality assurance and membership in the Gütegemeinschaft can be found in the statutes.
